Growing in God

Many people are intimidated about reading God’s word. They don’t know where to start. They don’t understand what they are reading. Or they don’t know how the Bible relates to life today or even more specific, how it relates to their personal life. So I compiled 5 of my favorite resources to help jump start your Bible reading, push your spiritual growth, and cultivate your understanding of God’s word.

“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrews 4:12

#1 NLT Life Application Study Bible

This is my favorite study bible that I have used for years. It answers the real-life questions that you may have and provides practical yet powerful ways to apply the Bible to your life every day.

It helps you learn the accounts and teachings of the Bible with verse-by-verse commentary. You’ll gain wisdom from people in the Bible by exploring their accomplishments and learning from their mistakes.

If you don’t have a study bible, go ahead and buy this one. Don’t put it off! Go ahead and put it in your amazon cart with the rest of your items or better yet hit buy now. Your spiritual health is most important.

#2 In The Mighty Name of Jesus

I recently came across this song on social media. It is entitled “Mighty Name Of Jesus” and has become my declarative worship song to proclaim over my life and family. It emphasizes the authority God's children have in the name of Jesus based on Isaiah 54:17. It declares that no weapon formed against you shall prosper, reminding us that no matter what we may come against, the name of Jesus is greater.

My favorite lyrics are:

“I draw a permanent boundary line the enemy has no rights to come near my family. No scheme could ever undo God's plans. No matter the circumstance the cross has sealed my destiny.

“I will not fear, I will not fear when the enemy comes near. On the doorframe of my life is the blood of Jesus Christ. I will not fear, I will not fear. There’s an army of angels here I’m protected on all sides by the blood of Jesus Christ.”

#3 The Bible Recap App - the Devotional Tab Videos

In the YouVersion Bible App, the Bible Recap Plan is a great resource to follow. I used the recap videos under the devotional tab of each day in the plan to listen to as a podcast. I don’t necessarily follow the reading plan because it can be a lot to read each day. But the recap videos are great to use a devotional to get an overview of the scriptures covered in the reading plan for that day. This doesn’t replace reading the Bible but it’s a way to get the Word in on-the-go and then go back and read and study the scriptures at a later time. Especially when something peaks your interest and curiosity to read. It’s kind of like a preview, teaser, or appetizer before feasting on God’s word.

#4 “How to Get Out of Your Own Way in 2025”

How to Get Out of Your Own Way in 2025 is a great sermon to kick off the new year. Based on Genesis 3, it unpacks and discovers how to break free from distractions, focus on what matters most, and embrace God’s vision for your life in 2025.

#5 War cards

Lastly, I still have my War Cards resource available for purchase. This collection includes topic scriptures to combat common life challenges. This very collection strengthened my own walk with the Lord and kept me through struggles, so I know it will do the same for you. It’s also a great resource to use to guide scripture specific prayers.

Let 2025 be the year you draw the line in the sand and stop being undernourished with God’s word.

Hosea 4:6 warns and proclaims:

“My people “perish” because of lack of knowledge…” in other words “My people are “destroyed” because they don’t know me…”

And Hosea 4:14 says "…a people without understanding shall come to ruin"

Let’s not be a people of our own spiritual demise because we don’t know God through knowing his Word.

I pray you’ll use these resources to help you prioritize God in your life and invest in your spiritual health and growth. Become a disciple of Christ. Become a student of God’s word. Cultivate your relationship with God through Jesus Christ. And live a life surrendered to following God.

Also if you have any prayer request or need suggestions of a good book of the Bible to read, send me a message.
