Homeschool Spaces
A perk of being a military family is having the opportunity to create new homeschool spaces in each house we make a home.
This blog captures all the homeschool spaces we’ve had thus far throughout the years. This entry started off as social media posts but a good friend of mine suggested I compile the posts into a blog. Therefore, each section entry is written in the present tense (plus it still captures the connections of the space while we were in it).
We didn’t always have a “homeschool room” but we made spaces for homeschooling in our homes. I hope you’re inspired and find effective ways to setup your homeschool space .
Our initial homeschool space
This is our homeschool/home study-office area! It’s not your typical homeschool room or space but it works for us. I LOVE home decor, so I wanted my space to look uniformed but still functional and useful for the boys. It’s in the kitchen area of our home. It’s perfect for us because if your family is like mine, many of our memories happen around food and gatherings. I wrote a description on each photo in this post explaining how it’s useful for our homeschooling style. Hopefully this inspires you to see that even the smallest areas can serve dual purposes and be turned into the perfect homeschool space for your family. ✨
Details
Bookcases: I love that these bookcases have shelves and doors. I can store books on the shelves and hide the messy collection of learning activities and supplies behind the closed doors. They’re also functional for the boys because it provides them easy access to retrieve whatever they need during our homeschool sessions.
Table: This table is designed to be a small kitchen table but Terrence said it would be a perfect desk table...and it is! It even has 4 medium-size drawers (2 on each side). The boys sit here to watch videos online and do their computer learning programs. On good days when Neh doesn’t have the “wiggles”, he gets to work at this “big boy table”.
Chalk wall: The boys enjoy this chalk wall!! During their brain-breaks in between learning activities they like to doodle on it for fun.
Work area and display: This is their working area. The table is the perfect size for them, especially for Neh for when he’s working on handwriting. The table is low enough for great writing posture. It also serves dual purposes as a meal table for the boys. The small cork board hanging to the left of the bookcases is where I display some of the boys’ work. We also use the fridge to display work as well.
Another benefit of homeschooling in this area is while the boys are working on an independent activity at their table, I can answer a few work emails on the desktop computer.
Our second homeschool space
I didn’t take stage photos of this homeschool space but you can catch glimpses of it throughout the background of random photos.
The entire living space was our homeschool area which included our sunroom and parts of our living room, and kitchen area.
Our third homeschool space
Here’s the first time we were able to have an actual homeschool room.
In other words, use what you have, where you are and make the most it. #blessingsgrow
Our latest homeschool space
In each homeschool space, I reuse the same furniture pieces and decor but in different variations.
